We've all seen the news about the devastating effects that meth (P) is having in the community, and aside from the human toll many landlords have struggled with tenants contaminating their properties with harmful residue. A house can appear clean yet be filled with harmful contaminants that can affect you and your family's health, often resulting in respiratory and skin issues. Renovations and painting can often be used to mask an underlying meth problem when a property is put on the market for sale.
A simple check for contamination is the best way to assure yourself that the property you're purchasing will be a clean and safe environment to live in.
We use the Analytica Laboratories approved Field Composite Analysis method of testing for meth where we take 5 samples from the most likely contaminated rooms as assessed by our Certified Meth Tester to determine if meth is present in the tested areas. If a positive indication of meth is found, further testing for levels to identify the severity of the contamination can be performed for an additional charge if requested.
Meth contamination is rarely visible and meth manufacturing labs now operate in all suburbs throughout the country. The cost of decontaminating a newly purchased property can add up to tens of thousands of dollars, usually not covered by insurance. Severely contaminated properties can require demolishing and if you're buying a property to rent out, Tenants can be awarded compensation as a result of living in a contaminated property so it really is better to be safe than sorry.
Purchase a Meth Test with a house inspection andonly pay $145 extra. METH TESTING carried out in accordance with the NZ Ministry of Health guidelines by a fully certified Meth (P) tester. This will tell you if the property contains any traces of meth use and you will be advised if furthing testing is recommended and what costing is likely involved.
